What is Gorilla Glass?

Gorilla Glass is a very special type of glass specially created for mobile phones. It increases the durability of the mobile screen and protect it from scratches and external shocks. Specialty of gorilla glass is that it doesn’t add extra weight yet provide more protection than the normal glass screen. It is a protective layer of glass which is chemically designed to withstand more pressures. Gorilla glass is unscratchable, unshatterable, completely withstanding type of glass used as a protective window. It is chemically tempered by immersing in a salt bath and compressing all large ions so that they are bonded together strongly.
Some of the smart phones which use gorilla glass are Samsung Galaxy S, the Apple iPhone 4, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab etc.

Apple A5 processor

Apple A5 processor is a new processor for apple products designed by Apple and manufactured by Samsung. Apple A 5 is expected to be the core processing unit of upcoming apple iphone 5.

Apple A5 uses package-on-package technology, which is an integrated circuit packaging technique that combines discrete logic and memory ball grid array packages.
These packages are arranged one above the other and a standard interface routes the signals in between them.
The main benefit of package-on-package technology is, motherboard space savings and also the RAM device is not coupled with the logic device.

The A5 processor contains ARM Cortex A9 CPU with NEON SMD accelerator and dual core POWER VR SGX543MP2 GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), which can move 35 million polygons per second at 200 MHz. The processor powers DDR2 (double data rate) and 512 MB RAM (memory capacity). Neon technology is a 64+128 bit SIMD (Single Instruction Multiple Data), which is an instruction set that is used in the ARM architecture of A5. This instruction set provides high standard acceleration for signal processing applications. A5 is a system-on-a-chip based technology and it is a single integrated circuit chip that contains all types of signals on a single chip substrate.

iphone 5 what is new?

iPhone 5 the new and advanced iphone series which is expected to release in this year has naturally boosted excitement about it new features in iPhone lovers. There are plenty of rumors all over the internet regarding the expected features and the new technology that are used in it. As android phones are attracting large community of users, iphones are naturally losing its charm. In order to make up this the new release has to be more attractive than the current one.
Following are the most wanted features:
Please note that these are just most wanted features and doesn't mean that all features will be implemented in iphone 5. It is sure that some feature here will not be installed.

Enhanced voice control

Apple didn't show off any new voice-control features as part of its iOS 5 previews in June but it would be cool to be able to compose and send e-mails or text messages by just using your voice.

Removable battery

This well-known rendering of a future iPhone dreams of a model with a removable battery. That appears to run counter to Apple's current design principles. Though this feature is most wanted by the users the chance of implementing this is almost zero.

Expandable memory

Not happening, but just thought we'd mention it.
Chances of implementation: 0 percent

Biometric security

It's hardly a must-have upgrade, but it would be cool to swipe your finger--instead of enter a password--to unlock your phone.

NFC-enabled (near field communication technology)

Rumor has it that Apple may be working on adding near field communication technology (NFC) into the next iPhone. This is sort of a bar code replacement technology that would allow your iPhone--among other things--to act as a payment device (e-wallet) or even a car key.

More memory

A lot of people were disappointed that the iPhone 4 didn't come in a 64GB version (only 16GB and 32GB). Maybe next year we'll get 64GB.

Improved home screen and notifications system

iPhone users have been waiting a long time for a more customizable home screen, with a real "dashboard" and a better, streamlined notifications system. Apple is delivering all that in OS 5, and though the new design may fall a little short for some folks, it's certainly a huge advancement. Of course, Android users will point out that these features, including customizable widgets, have long been available on Android smartphones.

Better cloud-computing support

In previous versions of this list, we've asked for this feature, and we'll now get it with iCloud in the fall. In some ways iCloud is more restrictive than Amazon's iDrive cloud storage solution, which allows you to store all your photos and videos (Apple's iCloud has not addressed video yet), but it's a big step forward, and the fact that you can mirror your iTunes music library (regardless of where you got your music) for $25 a year is an enticing offer.

Video chat (FaceTime) over cellular network

Currently, on the iPhone 4, FaceTime only works over Wi-Fi (yes, there are some workarounds to get it to work over 3G, but Apple doesn't officially support it). In iOS 5, doing FaceTime over a cellular data network is now part of the settings menu but it looks like the carriers have control over whether it's enabled.

Flash support

This feature implementation is the last thing to expect. This is most wanted but it is almost sure that flash support will not be implemented.

Larger screen

Rumors continue to surface that Apple will be expanding the size of its iPhone screen to compete with the larger screens on Android smartphones.

Better camera

We certainly appreciate that Apple improved the camera in the iPhone 4 (5 megapixels; LED flash), but we've seen rumors that Sony is developing an even better 8-megapixel camera for the fifth-gen iPhone.

Dual-core processor

With Apple's acquisition of PA Semiconductor, it's started designing and churning out its own CPUs, including the new 1GHz A5 dual-core processor that's in the iPad 2. That same processor will almost assuredly make its way into the next iPhone. (The iPhone has an A4 processor that also runs at 1GHz, but the A4 has a single-core architecture).
LG, Motorola and some others mobiles already have dual core processor for mobile.

Improved 3D graphics

The A4 CPU has a Imagination PowerVR graphics chip integrated into it. Like the iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 4 uses a PowerVR SGX535 chip. But the iPhone 5 will presumably get the PowerVR SGX543MP found in the iPad 2.

Better battery life

Every time Apple puts out a new iPhone, the battery life gets better, so we expect no less from the fifth-generation iPhone. Apple says the iPhone 4 has 40 percent more talk time than the iPhone 3GS. So, if the past is any indicator, we might see similar gains in next model.

4G network compatibility

The one big thing missing from the iPhone 4 is next-gen 4G data network support, which is probably why Apple called it the 4 instead of the 4G.

Security threat for iPhones: Duh Worm

Hackers have built a virus called Duh Worm that attack Apple’s iPhone by secretly taking control of the device via its internet connection. Duh Worm will make the online transaction of the iPhone users vulnerable to hacking. The virus has been detected in Netherland. The virus can only attack iPhones whose users have disabled some preinstalled security features.
The hackers are trying to use the virus to obtain personal details from the phone like passwords of banking sites. When the iPhone users tries to access a bank website the Duh Worm directs the browsers to a lookalike site controlled by hackers.
The only iPhones that are vulnerable to the Duh Worm are jail broken phones. Jail broken phones are those phones in which key security features given by the company are disabled. When user disable key apple security features to get around the terms of usage agreement that they are designed to enforce. For example, Apple prevents the users from switching service providers to unauthorized carriers and limits users to the approximately 100000 programs that the company has vetted for installation on the device. There are thousands of unauthorized programs covering areas like internet phone calls, Wi-Fi access and pornography.
Most of the users will not disable this system. If the virus attack occurs due to disabling of the security features then it will violate the warranty. They even cause iPhone to become unstable. It is safer for the user not to disable the security features of the iphone since it may result in the greater security risk. It will provide an open door entry for the hackers.

Internet on mobile-requirements of a good internet ready phone

An Internet ready phone is the need of the most of the people. Now internet is not confined to desktops and laptops but it is accessible through hand held devices like mobile phones. Lots of mobile phone applications based on the internet demand good bandwidth. The speed must be very fast for applications like video streaming and live TV. Speed provided by 2G is good for e-mails or small data transfer application. But applications like video streaming and live TV need high download speed.
Only high speed internet can provide the pleasure of accessing the internet in the mobile. It can be achieved by using the 3G network. 3G can provide the downlink of 3MBps. Videos can watched as if watching in the TV without waiting for minutes for streaming.
Experiencing the internet on a mobile will be entirely different from the one in computer. Mobile phone has limitation on its screen size and the resolution. While buying a mobile phone for an internet application one should consider this feature. To enjoy the browsing a descent screen size is very important. A 5.6cm Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) is suitable for mobile internet. If the screen size is very small it will be difficult to scroll and watch the whole page. A phone with touch screen will be preferred for internet mobile internet. It helps in the better navigation.
Most of the web applications today use java and flash contents. The mobile phone operating system should support java, flash and other applications that are needed for modern web. Usually mobile phones with internet facility will support java. Flash Lite software is needed to view the online videos.
The mobile phone browsers also plays very important role in a good internet ready mobile phone. A good browser should have facilities like multi tabs, zoom, and compressed downloads for faster browsing and book marks. Opera mobile offers multi tab features while opera mini compression for fast browsing. Google android and safari provide rich display of websites. Mozilla Minimo and Microsoft IE for mobiles are other popular mobile web browsers.
Most of the people in India use 2G supported GPRS/EDGE to access the internet. GPRS speed will be around 25 to 40kbps. This data rate depends on the network strength, mobile phone and traffic. If you have a 3G handset and using 2G gprs then also you will get the almost same speed.
There are different technologies in the GSM and CDMA standards that work in 3G spectrum to offer different uplink and downlink data rate. The Wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) of GSM provide maximum downlink speed of 384kBps. High speed download packet access (HSDPA) extends and improve WCDMA taking into higher speed.
Nokia N70, N73, Motorazr V3XX, LG Ku990 are some phones which support WCDMA. Latest 3G phones like Apple iPhones, Nokia N96/N97/E71, Samsung Omnia and HTC touch are HSDPA phones.

3G networks:The third generation network standards

3g is the booming mobile network standard all over the world. GSM is currently most popular cell phone network type which support both voice and data communication. But the speed of this network is very slow. It has download rate up to 14.4kbps. While the 3G network has better download and upload speed. It has up to 10Mbit/s download and 5.8Mbit upload speed.
Japan and South Korea are the pioneers of 3G communication. FDMA a Japanese company launched this service successfully in May 2001 and a Korean company SK telecom launched in January 2002.
3G uses an advanced encryption called as Kasumi. 3G network produce greater degree of protection due to this encryption. Kasumi is more powerful encryption than older A5/1 stream cipher.
3G provide faster data communication facility, which helps us to download stuff faster using mobile. We can use this for video calls and to send larger MMS. User can enjoy uninterrupted video streaming due to faster connection.
Though 3G has lot of advantages the installation of this network has been delayed in many countries due to high initial investments. Radio frequency used for 3G are different from that are used for current 2G networks. Companies have to build new infrastructure to provide this service. Now only few metropolitan cities have 3G network in India.
